World’s Oldest Olive Tree unearthed!
We are incredibly excited to announce that the world’s oldest olive tree has been discovered in Italy and this year will produce a single bottle of the world’s most exclusive olive oil, to be marketed exclusively by unearthed®. Previously it was thought that the oldest olive tree in the world grew on Crete and its age was estimated to be between 2000 and 4000 years (scientists are pretty rubbish at this stuff) but – incredibly – this Italian tree is known to be at least 5000 years old!
You may wonder why I am being so vague about its location but it is vital that the tree is protected. Already I have received threats from residents of Crete, angry that their record has been overtaken. Even a brief search of internet forums reveals that they have plans to fell the tree. For this reason, it is only me and four trusted Italians who know the exact location and we have sworn to protect the tree.
A core sample taken from the tree has proved its age beyond doubt and graffiti on the tree’s trunk includes a number of lewd scrawls thought to have been left by Roman soldiers returning from the Battle of Lake Regillus in 496 BC and are mixed with references to the battle itself.
If you are interested in bidding for this incredible and unique oil, please leave a comment below. The olives will be harvested this coming Autumn and the oil will be available in time for Christmas 2011.
