It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that here at unearthed®, even our charity support relates to food!
Action Against Hunger
Since 2010 we have supported ACF International (Action Against Hunger) – an international humanitarian organisation – who are working to save the lives of malnourished children while providing communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger. For over 30 years they’ve used their expertise to help in emergency situations of conflict, natural disaster and chronic food insecurity. They also run run life-saving programmes in over 45 countries benefitting seven million people each year.
We support them by:
- Donating 1p from every pack sold: raising £200,000 since 2010
- Supporting the LoveFoodGiveFood campaign
- Supporting the Mali ‘health gardens’ project (as below)
- Taking part in their charity events, like the Action Against Hunger 10K
- Donating proceeds from sales of our 193 course tasting meal pop-up
We co-fund an Action Against Hunger project in Mali, West Africa. The project has been underway for a couple of years with unearthed® adding our support in 2012, before the political situation in Mali worsened. The current situation in the country means that food security is an even more pressing issue.
The project is called the “Health Gardens” and it’s all about improving the health of families – in particular children.
As well as providing money to buy seeds and gardening tools, the project includes nutritional education for mothers and support with selling excess production to boost household incomes.
Two years on and already health is improving as the community harvest and eat what is being grown in the garden. In addition many families have been able to sell some of their produce – meeting the on-going aims of the project.
